In this 10-week course, students will be introduced to the basics of high school Physics. This course is designed to be part 3 (of a 3-part) high school physics course that gives the student a good foundation in physics in order to prepare him or her for a college-level course. In order to understand the material, the student needs to have completed Algebra I and Geometry and should have access to a scientific calculator. Students who take and understand this course will be very well prepared for a tough university physics course. Hopefully, they will also gain an appreciation for physics around them in their every day lives. Each week students will receive a copy of the notes we cover as well as links to open-use, online textbooks with more information relating to the subject matter. Additionally, this course combined with the other 2 parts can be taken in preparation for the Natural Sciences CLEP exam, which will allow a student to earn college credit for his or her Biology and Physics knowledge. Please note, this series of classes ONLY covers Physics. Students would need to take a different course or study on their own to prepare for the Biology part of the Natural Sciences CLEP exam. If you want more information about the CLEP exam, please feel free to message me. If you are struggling with the calculations component of this class, I do also offer math tutoring. Feel free to message me about setting up a time for that if you are interested. If you do not want to receive a grade for this class, then the homework and quizzes are not required and you can estimate 0-1 hours of outside class work. If you want a grade, then the homework and quizzes are required and you should estimate approximately 4 hours of outside class work per week. Either option will cover all the objectives of a high school class. In part 3, we will cover the following topics: week 1: electromagnetic induction and AC circuits week 2: electromagnetic waves week 3: geometric optics week 4: vision and optical instruments week 5: introduction to quantum physics week 6: atomic physics week 7: radioactivity week 8: nuclear physics week 9: particle physics week 10: frontiers of physics Each week will also include an optional virtual lab to be completed outside of class.
