US Grade 9 - 12
Intermediate - Advanced Level
This is a 16-week full-semester class that covers concepts of Physics (Algebra based). Although this is a skill-based course, to do well, learners should have studied and have a strong foundation in Algebra I and have already the first semester of Physics. This class will include lecture style PowerPoint presentations, images, activities, and short experiments. After the first class, students will be provided an E-Book to following along. During class, students will have the opportunity to express themselves, solve problems with guided practice and take small assessments to measure their understanding. There will be optional homework problems with answers, reading assignments, optional unit tests and project-based assignments that learners can do to check their understanding. Learners are welcome to contact me with questions outside of class hours about the assignments and I will answer within 24 hours. Answer keys will be posted every week. We will not be doing full physics lab experiments with lab reports in this class. A semester grade for this class is available if requested within the first week of the course. The course schedule will include the following: Unit 1- Momentum Week 1: Linear Momentum, Force, and Impulse Week 2: Conservation of Momentum Week 3: Elastic and Inelastic Collisions Unit 2- Work, Energy, and Simple Machines Week 4: Work, Power, and the Work - Energy Theorem Week 5: Mechanical Energy and Conservation of Energy Week 6: Simple Machines Unit 3- Waves and Their Properties Week 7: Types of Waves Week 8: Wave Properties: Speed, Amplitude, Frequency, and Period Week 9: Wave Interaction: Superposition and Interference Unit 4 - Sound Week 10: Speed of Sound, Frequency, and Wavelength Week 11: Sound Intensity and Sound Level Week 12: Doppler Effect and Sonic Booms Unit 5- Light and Mirrors Week 13: The Electromagnetic Spectrum Week 14: The Behavior of Electromagnetic Radiation Unit 6: Static Electricity Week 15: Electric Charges, Conservation of Charge, and Transfer of Charge Week 16: Coulomb's Law This is fitting for students who are homeschooled or students who attend school in traditional or hybrid settings. For students who have taken Physics before, this will help them to get additional practice and assessments.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the concepts of machines, electricity, waves and light.
