Description
Class Experience
This 3 day course will help your learner prepare for Algebra 1 or Integrated 1 math as they enter high school. We will focus on strengthening students with the basic skills needed to be successful in most 9th grade math classes. We will cover topics from pre-algebra including writing expressions, solving equations, finding slope, writing the equations of lines from tables and graphs, solving real world problems using algebraic skills. Students will review and practice the following skills. -writing expressions -solving equations -finding slope -writing the equations of lines from tables and graphs -solving real world problems using algebraic skills
After each session, the learners will be given no more than 10 homework problems to complete individually. Students will have the opportunity to try problems at varying levels of difficulty, based on their knowledge of a topic, and check the answers to these problems before class begins. Learners will be able to ask questions about any homework questions during class.
Paper and pencil. White board and expo marker are preferred for game play and to share answers with the class. Calculator (optional)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Informal assessment will be done during the last class meeting, in the form of a jeopardy style game. Students will also be given daily feedback on homework assignments, and all exercises attempted in class.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
