High School Interior Design and Home Design: Ongoing Class With Designer
What's included
1 live meeting
50 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
In this ongoing class, students will learn about a different aspect of Interior Design, Architectural Design, or Construction as it relates to residential design. Students will learn all types of interior design principles including how to design a room, how to re-design a room, how to create floor plans, color theory and how to use a color wheel, how to design and order custom furniture, how to work with clients, how to use many types of design software, how to read and create blueprints and floor plans, about building materials (counters, floors, etc), how to recognize design types, design principles (symmetry, balance, composition, weight, and more). Each week will present different concepts and students will have a chance to practice that concept. They will also be given an optional design challenge to complete outside of class and are encouraged to send questions and designs outside of class for further feedback. Some weeks will have games, quizzes, and group projects. Students will learn how to give feedback on other students' work. This class is taught in a series of present, practice, challenge. For example, if we were working in design software, I will teach a feature of the software while incorporating design tips, then students will practice using what they've just learned, and finally they will complete a challenge that incorporates both the software feature and the design principle. For example, we may learn about choosing flooring for a design plan, then hear how to work with flooring in our design software, then we will put those two concepts together to complete a design challenge. I want this to be a fun place to learn about design and to gain experience in applying design concepts. Students will also have the opportunity to present their work if they choose to. There is no prior experience needed to join this class. Students who already have some experience with design or design software will have the option to complete more in-depth practice problems as we go through each concept. The club topics and supplies will be listed two months in advance so that learners can have supplies on hand each week.
Learning Goals
Students will learn interior design principles, home design principles, interior design business practices, be familiar with design software, floor plan creation, room design and redesign, color theory, custom furniture ordering, budgeting, mood boards, design boards, and more.
