US Grade 9 - 12
In this 6-day class, we will discuss the types of grammar mistakes that make our sentences (along with essays and other papers) confusing, faulty, or bland. Understanding and identifying these grammar mistakes will also help students with grammar questions on standardized tests. I will give explanations and a lot of examples of each type of mistake before students practice correcting some faulty sentences of their own. This class is designed to be an equal combination of me teaching and the students either discussing the mistakes they see or completing hands-on practice assignments. I will provide some printable activities for hands-on practice that we can discuss and review as a class. I will also provide a short worksheet and answer key after each class for students who would like a little extra practice. Day One: Dangling and Misplaced Modifiers Day Two: Passive Voice Day Three: Wordiness Day Four: Parallel Structure Day Five: Weak Verbs Day Six: Commas, Colons, and Semi-colons + Review of All Lessons
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to write strong, coherent sentences in order to make their essays and research papers more concise and understandable.
