US Grade 9 - 12
In this 6-week class, we will discuss the types of grammar mistakes that make our sentences (along with essays and other papers) confusing, faulty, or bland. Understanding and identifying these grammar mistakes will also help students with grammar questions on standardized tests like the SAT. I will give explanations and a lot of examples of each type of mistake before students practice correcting some faulty sentences of their own. This class is designed to be an equal combination of me teaching and the students either discussing the mistakes they see or completing hands-on practice assignments. I will provide a short worksheet and answer key after each class for students who would like a little extra practice. If students need any further explanations or examples, they can message me and I will provide more help. Week One: Dangling and Misplaced Modifiers Week Two: Passive Voice Week Three: Wordiness Week Four: Parallel Structure Week Five: Weak Verbs Week Six: Commas, Colons, and Semi-colons + Review of All Lessons **I also offer this class in the FLEX format: https://outschool.com/classes/high-school-grammar-avoid-faulty-sentence-structure-Jeyt552M?usid=TTO3nIBx&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link
