This is a flexible schedule, self-paced option for my popular high school essay writing course. This course will offer no live class meetings. Instead, your student will have access to a class recording weekly to watch, as well as additional written and visual documents to augment the recording. Each week, students will have activities to complete on the message board to create a workshop feel as we learn new steps to essay writing. Also, each week students will have an opportunity to complete their own essays and to receive individualized teacher feedback. I will be available for office hours and meetings throughout the course as requested. In this course, we will cover the fundamental skills to master the art of writing compelling essays. With extensive experience in reading and grading essays, I have developed a simplified and clear approach to teaching basic essay writing. Through practical activities and engaging discussions, we will delve into essential skills week by week. Week 1: Crafting a Strong Thesis: We will focus on constructing a compelling thesis statement, the foundation of any successful essay. Week 2: Organizational Strategies: We will explore different organizational structures and techniques to ensure logical flow and clarity in your writing. Week 3: Harnessing Evidence: We will delve into the art of using evidence effectively to support your arguments persuasively. Week 4: Mastering Introductions and Conclusions: We will discuss strategies for crafting captivating introductions and impactful conclusions, leaving a lasting impression on your readers. Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to apply the skills you learn through practical activities. Additionally, outside of class, you will have the chance to complete and submit essays for feedback, allowing you to refine your writing further. No prior writing experience is necessary for this course, as we will cover all the fundamental skills required for essay writing. Join us on this journey to enhance your writing prowess, whether you are a beginner or seeking to refine your existing skills.
