In this class, we will read classic literature and discuss it as a group. This course will have no written homework; however, your student will be given access to vocabulary and comprehension games on Quizlet if they would like to enhance their understanding of the material outside of the class. In class, we will read, discuss, and play games and challenges to fully engage with the literature. This class is taught in English.
Students will learn how to read unfamiliar words, decipher dialectical variances, make inferences, and decode figurative language.
Your student may need to finish a chapter outside of class from time to time; however, the majority of reading will be done in class. Your teen may choose to complete the optional vocabulary and comprehension exercises outside of class, but it will not be required.
Your student will be provided a free .pdf of each book to download and/or print. You may also purchase your own copies of each novel.
This class will have informal assessments only. I will assess each student's understanding of the material based on class participation. We will also occasionally play comprehension and vocabulary games as a class, but these will not be graded.
3 hours 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
The books we will be reading contain some mature themes and elements including violence, gun use, peril, and alcohol and tobacco use by adults, death, good vs. evil, etc.
