In this 6-week boot camp, students will cover the main Common Core standards for Reading Literature, Reading Informational, Language, Writing, and Speaking & Listening. At the end of the course, students will have a portfolio full of their work samples. The final portfolio will be in a Google folder that both the student and instructor will have access to. If the student takes future classes with the instructor, they will be able to continue adding content. Instruction will be presented through video lessons. Practice activities and assessments will be conducted using NoRedink and CommonLit. Students and parents will receive a grade report at the end of the course, along with recommendations for next steps. We will be -reading and analyzing short stories, poems, and articles (weeks 1-3) -completing and presenting a research project (weeks 4-6) -reviewing grammar and language use (integrated into all six weeks) Week 1: Short Stories; Comparing and Contrasting 2 Texts -"Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut and "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson -Parts of Speech Week 2: Poetry; Figurative Language and Literary Analysis -assorted poems by Gwendolyn Brooks -Punctuation Week 3: Non-fiction -George W. Harkins to the American People by George W. Harkins -Sentence Structure Week 4: Research project Part 1; Finding and Evaluating Sources; Prewriting -Building Paragraphs Week 5: Research project Part 2; Drafting, Editing, and Revising a Research Paper -Increasing Vocabulary Week 6: Research project Part 3; Creating and Presenting a Multimedia Presentation -Specific and Accurate Vocabulary

I have taught middle (6th-8th) and high school (9th-12th) English Language Arts for 10 years. I am certified to teach English (6-12) and ESOL (PK-12) in Georgia, South Carolina, and Virginia. I am also certified by the National Virtual Teacher Association. I have a B.A. in English and Secondary Education, a minor in Theatre Arts, and a certificate and endorsement in ESOL. I also have an M.Ed. in Media (Instructional Technology concentration).
