Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Now more than ever, students need a voice. Creative writing is a chance to escape the daily routine and create something spectacular. Teacher will provide several high interest writing prompts and story starters and the students will begin the writing process. During this hour there will be time to work on multiple prompts or perfect one depending on what your learner would like to do. Prompts will include but are not limited to:
*Picture Prompts
*Story Starters
*Quick Writes
*Group Writing Challenges

Teacher will be there to help students overcome writer's block and to encourage creativity. Students may also read and mentor each other based on their willingness to share their works.

Students are able to write short stories, journals, plays, or poetry. Finished works will vary based on each learners' area of interest and source for inspiration.

At the end of each session, students can read a portion of their work to the class.

Even though this is a one time class, students are invited to take it multiple times as each time is an opportunity to create a new and exciting original work.

Learning Goals

Supporting writers in crafting compelling story scenes, maintaining structured journals, and creating vivid poetry. Focus on clarity, purpose, technique, and revision.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Students will be advised to write about appropriate subjects, but creativity can often take a writer on unexpected tangents. Students will be allowed to share their work. Since the writing is taking place in real time, I will not know what the learner shares until they read their works to the class.
Supply List
Work will be completed in Google Docs, though a student is welcome to write in a notebook if this is their preferred medium.
I will provide a writing prompt worksheet. You might want to print this prior to class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
