This is the second semester of chemistry continued directly from the first semester. I recommend that all students take the first semester before enrolling in this class. Any students enrolling in this class who haven't taken the full first semester will need to be given special exception. Class Periods and Assignments: This class will be structured as a series of lectures with participation and class activities, two times per week. After each lecture period, I will post an assignment along with a due date for that assignment. The due dates will be generous and account for varied schedules. I will grade these assignments and return the grade to the students. Students should take thorough notes during class in order to effectively complete the assignments and study for exams. Exams: There will be one exam for this course. The exam will be comprehensive: it will include material that has been built from the entire course. The exam will be given during class time and expected to be submitted within an hour after each testing period. The exam can be submitted by taking a photo of them and then sending it to me, or it can be scanned and sent to me. The exam will be directly based on information from homework assignments and class notes. Class Breakdown: Lesson 1: Molecular Geometry Lesson 2: Naming Compounds in Chemistry Lesson 3: Introduction to Organic Chemistry Lesson 4: Oxidation and Reduction Reactions Lesson 5: Calorimetry These lessons will be taught over the course of eight weeks. Each lesson will be completed upon the consensus of learners' demonstration that they know the material. I won't be rushing the process, but I will achieve these learning goals.
Learning Goals
The learning goals are listed as the Lessons in the "Class Experience". I hope for students to have well-rounded knowledge of chemistry and that they feel prepared for future chemistry courses.
