1-2 hours per week. For each session of class, there will be one quiz covering the material the session covered as well as one lab activity (most of them will be ones that can be completed online). Students will receive a grade for each assignment they complete.Assessment
Optional quizzes and lab reports may be completed. Those students who submit this work will be given a grade report at the end of the class.Grading

This course is designed to be part 2 (of a 3-part) high school chemistry course that gives the student a good foundation in chemistry in order to prepare him or her for a college-level course. In order to understand the material, the student needs to have completed Algebra I and should have access to a scientific calculator. Students who take and understand this course will be very well prepared for a tough university chemistry course. Hopefully, they will also gain an appreciation for chemistry around them in their every day lives. Additionally, this course combined with the other 2 parts can be taken in preparation for the Chemistry CLEP exam, which will allow a student to earn college credit for his or her Chemistry knowledge. If you want more information about the CLEP exam, please feel free to message me. If you are struggling with the Algebra component of this class, I do also offer math tutoring. Feel free to message me about setting up a time for that if you are interested. If you do not want to receive a grade for this class, then the homework and quizzes are not required and you can estimate 0-1 hours of outside class work. If you want a grade, then the homework and quizzes are required and you should estimate approximately 4 hours of outside class work per week. Either option will cover all the objectives of a high school class. Students will need to purchase the following workbook BEFORE class begins: Carson Dellosa, The 100 Series: Chemistry Workbook, ISBN 1483817091. In part 2, we will cover the following topics: week 1: valence electrons, lewis dot diagrams, atomic structure week 2: nuclear decay, half-life, periodic table week 3: ionic and covalent bonds week 4: shapes and polarity of molecules week 5: writing formulas and naming compounds week 6: writing formulas week 7: moles, mass, and volume week 8: moles, empirical formulas, molecular formulas week 9: hydrates, balancing equations week 10: types of reactions, moles to moles Each week will also include an optional virtual lab to be completed outside of class.
Learning Goals
Learners will understand the following Chemistry topics: valence electrons, lewis dot diagrams, atomic structure, nuclear decay, half-life, periodic table, ionic and covalent bonds, shapes and polarity of molecules, writing formulas and naming compounds,
