What's included
10 live meetings
7 hrs 30 mins in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Students will receive assignments/worksheets weekly that will reinforce what was learned in class. The worksheets will be completed on Nearpod using a link that I will provide. The students will NOT be required to login to Nearpod. The assignments/worksheets will provide them with instant feedback on their performance. I will receive a report of their performance once it is completed on the website. If there are parts of the assignments in which students are having trouble it will be reviewed during the next class. We will be completing some optional labs in class, but some weeks the students will have optional labs that they can complete at home. All of these assignments will be used to reinforce what the students learned in class.Assessment
As the students complete assignments online they are instantly provided with their score on each assignment each week. Parents will receive a full report at the end of the course and at anytime requested of their learners progress.Class Experience
US Grade 9 - 12
In this Chemistry class learners will receive segment 1 of 3 of the High School Chemistry full curriculum class. This class is aligned with the NGSS standards. This multiday class is designed for someone who needs to complete a High School Chemistry course as well as someone who is currently enrolled in a Chemistry course and wants additional help. If a learner completes all three segments they will have completed a full curriculum of a High School level Chemistry course that meets the NGSS standards. Each week in this course students will view an interesting interactive presentation. Some classes will include live and recorded demonstrations and optional in class experiments. On weeks that we have experiments, I will perform the experiments on camera. The students have the option to perform the experiment at home along with me or observe me performing the experiment. If students wish to participate at home, required supplies for each experiment will be provided at least a week in advance. Most if not all optional experiments use simple household items. Throughout the lesson the learners progress will be measured through interactive games, quizzes, and questions within the Nearpod presentation. Learners will be responding on their own devices. Each week that a learner joins they will receive homework worksheets. These worksheets will provide automatic feedback on their progress. This class will be fun and interactive, we will learn through presentations, experimentation, and games. Learners will NOT be required to login to any website. I do use Nearpod and Kahoot in my lessons. Learners may need to click on a link but no login or accounts will be needed. These sites are used to help make the class even more interactive and fun. There is a free textbook that can be used along with this class CK-12 Chemistry for High School. The book can be freely viewed online at CK-12.org (https://flexbooks.ck12.org/cbook/ck-12-chemistry-flexbook-2.0/) Topics Covered: Segment 1 Week 1 & 2: Matter & Change Week 3 & 4: Atomic Structure Week 5 & 6: Electrons in Atoms Week 7 & 8: Periodic Table Week 9 & 10: Chemical Nomenclature 45 mins are set aside for each meeting. However, meetings may run 45 +/- 10 mins mostly due to the unpredictability of experimentation time.
Learning Goals
Learners will acquire the knowledge required to meet the standards in a High School Chemistry Course. Learners will gain an understanding of the key concepts that are scheduled above.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Science from Longwood College
Hi, I am very happy to have the opportunity to help your child learn and realize their full potential in Science. My classes are fun and exciting. Your Learners will learn all about Science while completing cool and fascinating experiments. In each class students will get the opportunity to perform fun but educational labs. They will learn how and why everything works. I'm a Chemist. I obtained a BS in Chemistry and Secondary Education with a minor in Computer Science from Longwood University. I have taught in the public school system teaching Chemistry and Mathematics on the High School level. In addition, I have taught Science classes on the Middle School level. I also teach ESL courses online. I also love crafting and cooking. I began learning to sew, knit, bake and cook at about 8 years old at home and in the 4-H club. Since College I have also fell in love with real estate, and have become a real estate investor. It's like real life monopoly. Real estate investing is fun and challenging all in one.
Currently I am a Chemist for the Department of Transportation. What I do enjoy most about my job with the DOT is when I get the opportunity to work with STEM students throughout the year. They visit and I get to show them all the cool stuff I do at work. I have always had a love for science and teaching. I would always find a way to do experiments and teach my dolls as a kid. I love teaching so much and can't wait to possibly inspire more future Scientist.
