Take home test. Student will submit for grading. All work must be shown in order to be graded. Sending in just the answers is not acceptable and will not be graded. All submitted work must be legible, all exercises labeled properly, and dated.Class Experience
(For students who have Math anxiety) I set up the chat in the class for private. So students can answer questions in the chat and only I get to see the answers.I do not call on anyone to answer questions in front of the class, I simply write an exercise on the whiteboard and encourage all to answer via the chat, again in private and I give you private feedback. This lowers the anxiety level a ton. :) Description: Prerequisite: Students need to be fluent in :The four operations with positive and negative numbers. Be able to plot points on the X and Y axis. The use of the distributive property. Evaluating basic expressions. NOTE : Students must have a reasonable amount of academic maturity to enroll. NOTE : If no students show after the first 10 minutes of class, class is cancelled. ******* No makeups, no refunds, no exceptions. ******** ******* ******** The way I teach this skill is very easy to learn and your child will be prepared for success in Algebra. I will show students how to do an exercise on the white board. They will learn by actually doing example exercises during class. I will repeat with another exercise and will explain as many times as needed until the students are ready to do the exercises by themselves. Once started, I will check their answers for accuracy and follow up with any necessary explanations. I encourage all participants to try as many exercises as possible. I follow up the class with an upload of homework with the solutions. (NOTE: Instructor reserves the right to change and modify content)
Learning Goals
Developmental Goals:
The goal for this course is to provide in part the mathematical background necessary for college level mathematics courses. This course also seeks to promote the use and understanding of the language of algebra.
Furthermore, this course seeks to enhance the student's ability to reason logically.

Aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS)18 Lessons
over 6 WeeksLesson 1:
Review of Combining Like Terms and the Distributive Property.
In this 50 minute class, we will review the essential concepts of pre-algebra.
Mainly, the distributive property and collecting like terms. I start with the basic level of distribution and collecting like terms and finish simplifying expressions at different levels of complexity.
Note that the first class is a review of topics.

Lesson 2:
Graphing Ordered Pairs and Naming Graphs.
In this 50 minute class, the first 20 minutes will be used in explaining concepts and working detailed examples for students.
The resultant 30 minutes will be used for students to practice exercises.
Immediate feedback will be given along with explanations and or corrections.
Students will graph points on the coordinate plane. ( the x and y axis)
The naming of graphs will be introduced, an important skill which will be useful in future algebra classes.

Lesson 3:
Relations , Mapping and Definition of a Function.
In this 50 minute class, the first 20 minutes will be used in explaining concepts and working detailed examples for students.
The resultant 30 minutes will be used for students to practice exercises.
Immediate feedback will be given along with explanations and or corrections.
Students will learn to distinguish relations and functions.
How to tell if a relation is or is not a function.
Additionally, they will learn to map relations.

Lesson 4:
Introduction to Slope, positive, negative, zero. Graphing basic Inequalities.
In this 50 minute class, the first 20 minutes will be used in explaining concepts and working detailed examples for students.
The resultant 30 minutes will be used for students to practice exercises.
Students will learn the concept of slope, negative , positive, zero or no slope. This skill is essential and useful skill in future algebra classes.
(Unfortunately, most schools overlook or spend a negligible amount of time on this topic, MUCH to the detriment of the student.)

Teacher expertise and credentials
Florida Teaching Certificate in Mathematics
Bachelor's Degree from University of Houston
Hello everyone! I am Mr. Millan!
A little about me:
I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston, where I found my passion for the vast field of mathematics. I worked as an engineer for HNU Systems, an environmental company based in Boston, where I not only excelled in my craft, but was asked to train personnel in industrial, academic and corporate settings.
However, something felt missing in my career. I began tutoring mathematics to people from all walks of life and found that I could combine my two passions: mathematics and my newfound love for teaching. As a result, I obtained an Educator Certificate from the Miami Dade County Public School System, and officially began tutoring full-time in 1995.
I realized this profession was my true calling in life when one of my very first clients, a prospective PhD student, told me I was a natural at teaching. This was the first of hundreds more praises of my teaching style and effectiveness.
Many people believe that they cannot learn math. However, I challenge that opinion every day. Everyone can learn the beautiful language that is mathematics. I have cultivated an eclectic but very effective form of teaching that has proven applicable to every one of my clients, from children to college students, and even teachers and professors. My students often tell me that I make math look and feel easy and doable, and they are able to grasp the concepts very quickly.
My 30+ years of teaching experience has been a rewarding experience. I have worked with all kinds of students, even those needing special accommodations. I have had the opportunity to connect with each one of my students and boost their confidence, not only in math, but in all academic endeavors. Mathematics becomes manageable, fun, and accessible to all my students!
With Outschool, I teach all levels of math to all ages within the platform. I teach:
Arithmetic
Pre-Algebra
Algebra I & II
College Algebra
Geometry
Analytic Trigonometry
Pre-Calculus & Trigonometry
Business Calculus
Calculus
High School & College Level Statistics
I cannot wait to kickstart this fun, learning experience with you as we navigate challenging math concepts and learn them with ease!
