Homework
1 hour per week. Each week I will introduce a small practice activity. This activity will be a fun way to review the words we practiced in that week's video class.

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 1
This class has a FLEX class schedule, meaning that this class will not meet for live sections. Instead it will "meet" through posts on the Outschool platform. Posts in the classroom will include pre-recorded lessons, announcements, assignments, and communication between the teacher and parent/learner. Depending on your learner's level/skills parent involvement in the class postings might be needed.
Learners should be able to identify all letters/sounds and write each letter. This class will practice the most basic high frequency sight words. Words will be beyond your two/three letter words.

This FLEX class will be scheduled over 4 weeks. Each video will be between 20-30 minutes in length. At the start of each week, I will introduce 6 new sight words. Together we will practice being able to quickly identify the word, spelling the word and using the word in a sentence.
I will then introduce a fun activity of the week that will incorporate the sight words that we learned that week. I will model the activity and then learners will get to complete the activity on their own after the video. Learners are encouraged to post their finished work to the classroom. This will let me see their progress respond with appropriate feedback. It also will bring a level of interaction between learners in a flex style class.

Week 1: Color by sight word code - like, have, said, with, does, that
Week 2: Rainbow words: this, come, when, look, your, went
Week 3: Roll and write game: will, they, make, very, were, good
Week 4: Word creation: what, came, then, know, play, take
Learning Goals
When a child quickly and confidently can read the most high frequency sight words, their reading skills will greatly improve! They will be able to identify, spell, write and use basic sight words in a sentence. We will learn while having FUN!

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
High frequency sight words are words that most times just need to be memorized. Reading, writing and spelling these words will help your leaner do this. Adding in the activities will help make this process FUN! I am a licensed teacher with my master's degree in elementary education. I was a full time kindergarten teacher and have taught these lessons many times.
