Class Experience

Come design a personal Hex sign based on Pennsylvania Dutch Hex sign examples and culture. Hex signs have been displayed on barns and homes around the Northeastern United States for hundreds of years. Together we'll learn about the these signs and the symbols that are displayed. Using Google slides and pictures, learners will understand the background of Hex signs as well as the focal point and unity in the designs. Color also has a significant role in Hex signs. Once learners have looked at examples and understand the symbolism in the designs, they will have the chance to create their own Hex sign with the symbols we learned about that have personal meaning. At the end of the class, learners will have the opportunity to share their Hex sign and why it is significant to them. Art supplies such as paper, cardboard, markers, and rulers will be needed for this class. No prior knowledge or art skills required.
