Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Do you love stories of fantasy like the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, and all the rest of the legends? Have you ever imagined yourself as a hero on a journey facing down a monstrous creature with a group of other warriors and wizards? If so, you should join our role-playing club where we will explore all the worlds, realms, and dimensions of the Dungeons and Dragons universe.

This group is open to players of all experience levels from beginner to advanced provided they are willing to be patient with others who are learning their way. We will also draw from all five editions of Dungeons & Dragons (including supplementary materials) so if you are using something from another edition we can convert and modify it. The more creative, open-minded, and imaginative our approach the more fun we can all have together!

We will meet each week for a ninety-minute session where will learn rules, create characters, and participate in role-playing adventures with a dungeon master running a campaign.

Our group will be a safe space for all, and there is an expectation that all of us treat each other with respect and a sense of fair play.

Here is a breakdown of the six weeks:

Week 1: a brief history, examples of play, and an overview of the rules
Week 2: how to create a fleshed-out character
Week 3: Training quest A
Week 4: Training quest B
Week 5: First official quest C
Week 6: Second official quest D

Those who are interested in continuing with the characters they have made and leveled up with during the introductory guests can take Heroic Journey's #2 where we will play a full-fledged campaign called The Tomb of Annihilation.

Supply List
If you have any of your materials you may bring them to the group. However, if you do not have any do not worry as we will help provide all the information and material you will need to participate. We will utilize an online dice generator (for fairness) and there is also a character generator if you choose to create a somewhat randomized character. The only thing you may want to bring is paper, a pen, pencils, any personal costumes, and miniatures that you may wish to use.

We will also make use of the massive, free resource of Dungeons & Dragons Beyond found at the following URL:

I have had a long history of playing role-playing games since I was a young boy. I was enthralled with the vivid art, the opportunity for character building, and the chance to use my imagination with my friends and family. As an educator, I hope to bring my understanding of story structure to our sessions even if I am not serving as the dungeon master I can be there to provide guidance. My theatrical experience in acting, directing, and screenwriting will contribute to an environment that is challenging and constructive.
