Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Welcome to "Heroes of Greyhawk: Embark on Epic Adventures!" In this thrilling class, young adventurers will journey through the enchanting world of Greyhawk, filled with ancient ruins, treacherous dungeons, and mythical creatures. Guided by experienced Dungeon Masters, students will learn the art of storytelling, problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking as they navigate through exciting quests and face epic challenges. Immerse yourself in a world of magic, bravery, and endless possibilities. Join us and become a true hero of Greyhawk!

Our learners have just completed a ghostly tale of dread and horror in the Mist of Ravenloft and are now ready for a new adventure to begin with fresh characters at 1st level. The adventure they have chosen will take them to the dark jungles of Amedio. A land that has resisted exploration, a land of secrets and dinosaurs. On the coast of the Azure Sea a waterway known for its pirates and sea monsters. This is a campaign style adventure that will lead the characters through several adventures until at level 20 they are saving the world.

Parents please read the parental guildance section to insure your learner has the maturity level to play this adventure. Our goal is to always make the learner feel safe, but also engage them and challenge them.

Parental Guidance
I understand the importance of age-appropriate content. While I will discuss fictional combat and magic, rest assured that the content will be tailored to be suitable for children. I prioritize creating a safe and inclusive environment where children can explore the exciting aspects of the game without exposure to inappropriate themes. Additionally I will address the topic of character death, emphasizing the positive possibilities it presents, such as character growth, resilience, and storytelling opportunities. Our goal is to provide a balanced and enriching experience that respects both the imaginative nature of the game and well-being of our young learners. This current adventure series deals with issues that are common in fantasy and science fiction stories such as death and dying, slavery, racism, betrayal. The adventure also has demons as the villians, and while Dungeons and Dragon demons are not those depicted by faiths of our world, I know that many are sensitive to this issue and I respect that. The greatness of Dungeon and Dragons is that it allows the player to face these issues safely in a safe fantasy world in which they can through their characters experience and give express ideas. This class will use a platform based digital dice roller called "Rolling Dice with Friends". The website ask for no information from the Learner and they will enter a password protected gameroom where they are only identified to each other by the names they choose (Character Names) there is no "Chat" Aspect of this room that could allow for accidental information exchange. The room only allows for the rolling of dice and allows all player to see the dice results that someone else rolls. It is a good tool as dice rolling and consequences of those rolls are the foundation for games and learning. I encourage you to visit this site located at https://rolldicewithfriends.com/
Pre-Requisites
While learners can be beginners they need to have some understanding of the rules. This isn't a class where I teach learners how to play the game. They need the basics. I teach this in another course.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons since I was 12. I have over 40 years of experience with D&D, and a host of other games. Dungeons and Dragons in many ways changed my life for the better as it fueled my imagination and drove me to seek my own adventures in life. I recently retired from a 30-year career in law enforcement and am ready to just enjoy a few of my hobbies, Dungeons and Dragons being one of my favorites I am eager to share it with a new generation.

I have sought further education on the topic of Neurodiversity and the therapeutic benefits of Roleplaying Games and have completed the Games to Grow Level One Training. Please visit https://gamestogrow.org for details. I have also completed Outschool's In-Service Training " The G Word".
