Here's Katakana! Part 1 (a Japanese Alphabet) (Age 8-12)
In this one time course, students will learn the first 15 letters of Katakana (the Japanese alphabet). They will study in an upbeat and interactive way, where all students will feel comfortable and engaged.

Call me crazy or call me weird, but in my opinion, Katakana is the hardest writing system out of the three Japanese writing systems (including Kanji). I know what you are thinking, Japan has three Japanese writing systems, that's insane, right? But don't worry, even though this might seem difficult, I have studied it, so I definitely have ideas to get you through. We will study how to read, write and speak: ア, イ, ウ, エ, オ カ, キ, ク, ケ, コ ガ, ギ, グ, ゲ, ゴ
I received my undergraduate degree in the Japanese language, culture, and history. I also earned my Master's degree in K-12 education. I studied abroad at Nihon University in Tokyo as well as worked as an English teacher in Niigata, Japan. I was able to see what I learned firsthand.
Students will be given worksheets to print out after the class to reinforce their learning. Because this class meets once, this is optional and they have the choice to send their homework to me to look over.
We will be use Kahoot, so your child will need to be able to play kahoot, I will give the playing key
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I do not routinely give an assessment at the end of the class. However, if a student or parent would like an assessment, they may request one by emailing me.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
