1 in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Students will be given worksheets to print out after the class to reinforce their learning. Because this class meets once, this is optional and they have the choice to send their homework to me to look over.Assessment
I do not routinely give an assessment at the end of the class. However, if a student or parent would like an assessment, they may request one by emailing me.Class Experience
Call me crazy or call me weird, but in my opinion, Katakana is the hardest writing system out of the three Japanese writing systems (including Kanji). I know what you are thinking, Japan has three Japanese writing systems, that's insane, right? But don't worry, even though this might seem difficult, I have studied it, so I definitely have ideas to get you through. If you have taken my Hiragana classes, then you know that with my method, you can learn Katakana easily. We will study to read, write and pronounce the first 15 of the 69 letters of Katakana. But wait? Doesn’t Katakana have only 46 characters? Well, I am including both the ten ten (not from Naruto) and the maru characters as well. Don’t know what they are? That means you haven't taken my hiragana course yet, so sign up for that one if you want to. Or: You will just have to take this course to find out. We will study how to read, write and speak: ア, イ, ウ, エ, オ カ, キ, ク, ケ, コ ガ, ギ, グ, ゲ, ゴ This is the first in a five-part course that will be used to go over Katakana. You will definitely enjoy this class. We will play games (fast moving Katakana game, kahoot and much more), video clips (for writing), powerpoint slides, and pictures to help you learn the sound and the letter. I want you to feel comfortable and engaged while learning. You will not need any experience, just an open mind and be ready to learn. Suggestions: You can either sign up for this course first and take the hiragana course second...or you can sign up for both simultaneously, or you can take the Hiragana course first and come back for the Katakana course later. The choice is completely up to you.
