Extracts, infusions, and hydrosols, oh my! In this 5-week online course, students will create four basic herbal preparations (and one bonus product- slime), from tea to syrup.

Class experience

Students will improve their understanding of the many uses of herbs through exploration and learning how to create herbal products.
I have been studying, creating, and selling herbal products since 2008 under my business, Lovely Green Studio. Over time, I have replaced many conventional products in my home with natural and homemade products ranging from skincare and makeup to food and multipurpose cleansers. I specialize in making herbal tea blends, bath, and skin care products, using herbs in cooking, and applying them in various methods for general wellness. It's valuable for learners to know how to craft basic herbal products and connect with nature in their daily routines.
Required supplies:

- Organic Dried herbs: Lavender, 4oz $12.50, Lemon Balm, 4oz $12.00 and Hibiscus, 4oz $5.25
- Psyllium Husk Powder, 4oz $6.50
- Honey (1 cup minimum, local and organic recommended when possible), about $5.00
- Organic Coconut Oil, $8.00

Household supplies:

Water
Pot with lid for boiling water
Oven mitt or similar heat protection
Fine mesh strainer and/or cloth tea bag(s) or muslin, used for straining herbs
Heat-safe bowl, glass measuring cup, or jar. MUST BE heat-safe.
Funnel OR a rolled piece of paper that creates a funnel shape
Glass or plastic bowls for mixing ingredients
Clean, upcycled bottles for storing products (recommended: small mason or jelly jar for scrub, small glass bottle with mister top for skin/room spray), and sauce/salad dressing bottle for syrup)
Sugar (about 1 cup)
2-3 handfuls of ice
Paper (any kind, color, about "sticky note" sized)
Drawing/writing materials of choice for label designs
Tape, preferably clear packing tape
Scissors

Optional supplies: Don't buy these per se- they can be great additions for flavor or color but are totally optional!

Lemons
Dried or Fresh Mint
Cinnamon Powder
Ginger Powder
Dried Cloves or Clove Powder
Turmeric Powder, Matcha Powder, Beet Powder, or Natural food dye/artificial food coloring for coloring the slime
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
As this class is for beginners, students need no experience. However, the use of a stove will be required for heating water and therefore parental supervision is suggested. Handling knives is a possibility but is optional. As such, please take extra safety precautions by supervising students during these lessons.
