By the end of the course, learners should be able to identify and/or describe the following: 1) Identify & Describe: the four chambers and the function of each chamber 2) Identify & Describe: the four valves of the human heart and the function of each valve 3) Describe: the differences between arteries, veins, and capillaries 4) Describe: how blood vessels are used to deliver oxygen and other nutrients throughout the body 5) Describe: at least five ways to promote heart health 6) Describe: causes and treatment of at least three types of cardiovascular disease If assignments are completed, learners will obtain valuable experience with scientific writing, critical thinking, and participation in online group discussions.
Learners should allow 30-60 minutes per week to complete their assignments. For weeks one and two, a worksheet about the cardiovascular system will be available online 48 hours before the start of the course and will be used during the course. Learners will complete one worksheet per week during class. The learners may use the worksheet page to answer 5-10 questions weekly. For weeks three and four, learners will participate in an activity based assignment. The activity based assignment is suitable for all fitness levels, can be modified for differently-abled learners, and can be completed at home.
Three colored writing utensils: (1) red, (2) blue, and (3) the learner may select any other color of their choice.
Written feedback will be provided to learners. If you are homeschooling your student, please contact me about any specific feedback you would like me to give, such as formal letter/percentage grades.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
