In this interactive class, students will explore the fundamental principles of nutrition and learn about the significance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The class is designed to encourage open discussion and foster a comprehensive understanding of nutrition. The lesson plan for this class spans four weeks and covers various topics related to nutrition and healthy eating habits: Week 1: Introduction to Nutrition During the first week, students will be introduced to the concept of nutrition. They will learn what nutrition is and why it holds importance in our lives. The class will also discuss and explore the significance of nutrition in maintaining overall health and wellbeing. Additionally, students will be introduced to the My Plate diagram, which visually represents a balanced diet. Week 2: Food Groups The second week focuses on understanding healthy eating. Students will delve into the concept of healthy eating and develop an understanding of what it means. During this week, the five food groups will be discussed in detail, along with their respective food sources. Students will also discover creative ways to incorporate more vegetables into their meals. Week 3: Food Labels During the third week, students will learn how to effectively read and interpret food labels. The class will explore the importance of understanding the information presented on food labels and how it can help make informed food choices. In addition, students will gain insight into decoding and comprehending the content of labels regarding fiber, fats, and sugar in various food products. Week 4: Healthy Snacks The final week of the class focuses on healthy snacking. Students will explore the benefits of incorporating healthy snacks into their daily lives. They will gain knowledge about different types of healthy snacks available and their nutritional value. Emphasis will also be placed on portion control, ensuring students can make sensible snacking choices while maintaining a balanced diet.
