In this class, learners will dive into a deeper understanding of the negative effects alcohol has on a person physically, emotionally and socially health (aspects of wellness). A few topics that will be discussed during this lesson are: differences in moderate, binge and heavy drinking. DUI & DWI, how alcohol effects the central nervous system. This information will be given in the form of a Power Point presentation (lecture) a long with teacher lead questions and discussion to promote deeper thinking on specific topics. During the lesson learners are encouraged to fill out a graphic organizer (a slide will show how to create on learner's own paper) to retain information covered on slides. The graphic organizer will help learners answer questions at the end of the lesson to assess what has been covered. I do a "brain break" slide halfway through the lesson (a series of stretches & stationary exercises) to help learners focus and "wake up the brain". Through my experience this has helped learners focus on the remainder of the lesson and the brain thrives on physical activity.
