In this ongoing class, learners will participate in a discussion and activities that are created to help them love themselves, build confidence and self-esteem. Week 1: Be Kind to Your Brain: - The way you talk to your brain can affect your mindset. Talk to your brain the way you would talk to a friend. Several scenarios will be discussed where kids overcame obstacles by changing the way they thought. Writing Inspiration "Failure is not an outcome, failure is NOT trying." Learners will be asked to write about what that quote means to them. Week 2: Everybody Makes Mistakes- It is okay to feel disappointed after making mistakes but someone with strong self-esteem will look at mistakes as an opportunity to grow. They will realize that some mistakes can be good. Activities: Learners will be given several scenarios and decide if they are big mistakes or small mistakes. Bigger mistakes are made when other people are affected. Accepting responsibility for mistakes will be discussed. We can't learn from our mistakes if we just blame them on others. Learners will be given a list of strategies to use when they make a mistake and select 3 to use in the future. Week 3: Problem Solving. Learners must have an open mind and be willing to try different things. They must also realize there are multiple ways to solve a problem. Learners will learn a 5-step plan to solve problems and will use it to solve one of their current problems. Week 4: Think Outside the Box - Sometimes we have to "think outside the box.” This helps us to be creative. This lesson will discuss tips for thinking outside the box. Activities: "This use to be a..." "Think before you plan" Week 5:- Setting Goals and Planning- This chapter will teach the learner how to set goals and build an action plan to achieve them. Activities: " Step by Step" "Backward Planning" Week 6. Positive Thinking:- This lesson teaches the power of positive thinking. It discusses how to seek help and ask question when you are being challenged. Stretches and exercises will be provided along with positive statements and affirmations that will help the learner be calm and focus. Each learner will create their own personal "Mantra" that they can repeat daily. A certificate of completion is provided to anyone who completes all 6 lessons.
