In this 8-week course, we will explore the campuses of HBCUs across the US while learning about their culture, history and educational contributions.

Beginner Level
This class is taught in English.
Students will explore the nations HBCUs and begin to dive into college preparatory planning.
Course educator, Morgan Jae, is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated- the first Black Greek Letter Sorority. She is also a college-trained historian and educator with a passion for educating youth on the diverse aspects of Black history and culture. She has taught high school students across various subjects including AP Literature and AP Language, while also providing tutoring and supplemental education and instruction for high school history and sociology students. 
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
We will be discussing the social conditions (racism, classism, etc.) that led to the creation of HBCUs. Additionally, there will be discussions of hazing & organizational violence as it pertains to greek organizations. While all of these organizations have anti-hazing policies, the national culture of Greek life prompts the necessity of this conversation, especially for young learners who may be interested in pursuing membership or are simply seeking to gain more understanding.



This course utilizes Kahoot and Google JamBoard for interactive review games and PearDeck/Google slides to create interactive presentations/lessons for students. Your student will need a personal Kahoot and Google account to experience the fullness of this course.
