Class Experience

In this class we will be learning what "not to do" around a horse, and the safer alternatives.
Horses are large animals and can pose a risk to those around them just by reacting to their own instincts or "being a horse". It takes experience, training, and proper skills to interact with them safely.
As a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor I was trained to assess every horse encounter for safety. I was taught to have an eye on the entire situation when teaching a lesson, camp, or just working around the horses each day. Safety is a top priority because when working with such large animals, small upsets can cause big injuries. Because of my training, I have noticed that safety is seen very differently across the equine industry and many people become complacent to safety over time.
Because of what I have seen, I would like to share my knowledge with your learner so that no matter when or where they may interact with horses, they have some basic understanding of how to do so safely.
We will be using a mix of silly photos and videos in this class to identify obvious safety issues, and identify some horse behaviors that may warn us ahead of time. We will then discuss what could/should be done to try to keep the student and horse safe.
This class is not necessarily for complete beginners. Even students who have been riding for a while may not have been introduced to some of the "best practices" we will cover.
