In this one time class we will discuss and learn how to hatch your own backyard chickens
Class Experience
In this one-day course, we explore hatching chicks for our backyard chicken coop. We will cover topics which include breeds, egg colors, equipment needed to begin hatching eggs and how to source eggs for hatching. We will look at alternative methods to hatching eggs. I will guide the learners through this class with informational slides, short quizzes, and open-ended questions to create class discussion. I encourage learners to share their own ideas and experiences as well as listen to others...
Students will understand the equipment needed for hatching chicks. Students will understand the process of hatching chicks. Students will learn how to create and source fertilized eggs for hatching. Students will learn fun and informative chick and chicken facts.
I have owned and raised my own chickens on and off since I was 5 years old. I have had a small chicken hobby farm (50) where I hatched my own chicks and sold my eggs. Now I currently have a flock of 10 chickens in an urban backyard chicken coop where we our pets to live the city life and they thank us with eggs.
No homework for this class
Learners are encouraged to bring a pen and paper to class to take notes. If you have chickens already please feel free to bring one or two pictures to share.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
