In this 8 week course, students will explore the wizarding world of Harry Potter through intensive book study. We will read the first Harry Potter book and engage in thoughtful discussions over the material.

Homework

1-2 hours per week. Students will read the required chapters for class each week. Students will be provided with questions that can aid in reading comprehension for the chapters.

US Grade 4 - 7

Beginner - Advanced Level

Students will read and discuss the first Harry Potter book throughout this ten week course. Each class will be focused on one to two chapters of material from the book. Students will read the chapters ahead of time, and we will spend time playing games, answering questions, learning vocabulary words, and discussing the material in class. Students will learn how to talk about the book from an intellectual perspective, as well as what it means to study a book in depth. I have taught this class many times, and it is always a favorite!

Parental Guidance

This class will be focused on the first Harry Potter book. Harry Potter is a wizard at a school for witchcraft and wizardry. Some themes may not be appropriate for learners under 8 years of age.

Supply List

Student will need to secure a copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. This can be a digital or print copy.

External Resources

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
