Dear students of Hogwarts, you are invited to a class full of witchcraft and wizardry. For this multi-day course, we will be reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Sorcerer’s Stone). NO prior knowledge or experience is required for this class. Being a Harry Potter fan is more than enough! Students who have already read or seen Harry Potter are also welcome to join these classes. During each class, we will explore themes, motifs, and symbolism in the book as well as discuss...
Student will develop their critical thinking skills by learning how to participate in discussions and analyze a book. This book club is meant to be both fun and enriching. I believe they should have fun while reading and exploring the book further in these classes.
I grew up as a HUGE Harry Potter fan. I have read all of the books and seen all of the movies multiple times. I have participated in and organize many forums and other book clubs for multiple Harry Potter novels and movies. As a true Hufflepuff myself, I will ensure all students are heard and are treated with respect in the classroom.
Students will read about 3 chapters every week in between classes. Reading these chapters should take no more than 3 hours (different chapters vary in length, most will take around 2 hours at most). There will also be a handout after each class (starting after the first class) to help the student look out for literary themes and literary devices as well as keeping up with the plot for the next chapters.
Each student should have their own copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone or Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Either version in book form or as an audiobook will work just fine. If you can't get a copy at home, check your local library to see if they have a copy (online or physical).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
