Does your student absolutely love the Harry Potter series? Did she dress up as Hermione for Halloween and beg to have a Harry Potter themed birthday party? If yes, then this class is for you! In each of these 7 classes, we will discuss one book of the series by reading an excerpt from the book and discussing the characters, plot, themes and favorite moments from that specific book. The students will learn about fictional writing including what makes interesting characters and how to keep a plot moving forward. Students will also work on their speaking, listening and writing skills by analyzing what makes each book of the Harry Potter series so great.
Not only have I been an English teacher for 15 years, but I am also a huge Harry Potter fan! I have taught multiple classes using Harry Potter as a way to engage otherwise reluctant learners and I know that it works!
Themes of Harry Potter include bullying, death, love, and good vs evil. We will be exploring these themes and the feelings and conflicts that the characters deal with. Your student should have read all of the Harry Potter books or have seen the movies for this class.
