In this eight-week class, students will practice their writing skills and hone their social skills through discussions and writing prompts about Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
Class experience
In this class, we will read approximately two chapters of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone per week. We will begin our classes with a fun, ungraded quiz about the chapters, and then launch into a group discussion. Questions will center around reading comprehension and social skills, focusing on empathy. During the last half hour of class, students will be given a prompt based on the chapters — such as, “What would you have done if you were there?” “Describe what you think the home of...
Students will hone their reading comprehension skills, their writing skills (focusing specifically on creative writing), and their understanding of social dynamics such as bullying and empathy.
Homework Offered
Readers will be assigned approximately two chapters per week. The writing prompts will be completed in class.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
