We will discuss the 1st Harry Potter book: "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". Learners who complete the book will receive a Certificate of Completion that they can print off and share with loved ones.

What's included

Homework
1 hour per week. Learners should read the assigned chapter of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. There will be two chapters assigned each week until the book is complete. It is also optional to complete the assignments for points.
Assessment
We will do quizzes on each chapter but they are just for fun to test how well learners remember key details from each chapter. The quizzes will not be graded.
Grading
A certificate of completion will be offered to the learners showing they read the entire book.

Calling all Harry Potter fans! 🧙

Welcome to our Harry Potter book club! We discuss two chapters of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone every week. On the classroom page, we will discuss our favourite parts of each chapter and our favourite characters. We will compare notes on different aspects of the story. For example: theme, setting, plot, emotions, point of view, etc. Learners will also be asked trivia + reflection questions.

Some fun activities throughout the course will include:

-get sorted into your Hogwarts house by the sorting hat
-create your wizard/witch name
-concoct your own potions
-quiz battles
& more!

Once learners have completed the 17 chapters (9 weeks), they will receive a certificate of completion showing that they read the entire Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone book. Woohoo!

Book Synopsis:

Harry Potter resides with Vernon and Petunia Dursley, his cruel uncle and aunt, and their mischievous son, Dudley. On Harry's eleventh birthday, a half-giant named Rubeus Hagrid reveals that Harry's parents, James and Lily Potter, were wizards when he brings him an entrance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry Potter's road to reconciling with his past and facing his future begins with the captivating novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. 


HOUSE CUP COMPETITION: In this FLEX class, Learners will be sorted into houses by the sorting hat (after chapter 7). Learners will be given optional assignments weekly to complete. They will be awarded house points if they complete the assignments! Then the winning house will win with the house cup! (This will be in the form of a printable certificate).

Please do not hesitate to join a section that has already begun! You will still be eligible to win the house cup and will still receive your certificate stating that you completed the reading of the entire book. 

If there is not a section time that works for you, please message me and I will do my best to open a time that works for you.
