Description

Class Experience

Learners brainstorm and categorize words associated with happiness ie “love” “peace” “fun”.
Learners develop images that could be interpreted to invoke happy feelings.
Learners prioritize three images for their painting project.
Learners connect the painting project to wanting to share their artwork to invite happy feelings in others.

By the end of the lesson:
Learners summarize words and images associated with happiness.
Learners paint images associated with happiness.
Learners plan how their happy rocks could invite happy feelings in others.

Homework will not be assigned however learners may need time to finish their rocks after the class time has ended. They may want to paint more happy rocks!
Paper and pencil Rocks – should be 2"-4" in size and washed and cleaned prior to class. Smooth rocks (not bumpy or pitted) work best. Color/shade does not matter. Each learner should have 3-5 so we can do different steps to best use our time. If you have time prior to class please paint two rocks with base coat (two coats is best). Acrylic paints (watercolor or tempera paints do not work well for this project) Paint brushes – fine tip and small flat tip Black sharpie Paper or plastic to protect painting surface Jar of clean water Paint shirt/t-shirt
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No formal assessment for or of learning.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Here is a great link to a province that is encouraging the "Paint A Rock, Hide A Rock, Find A Rock" movement.
