Does your child love funny stories? If so, they will enjoy these silly Hanukkah related stories about the ridiculous town of Chelm. This mythical Jewish town in Poland is full of either wise men or fools - depending upon whom you ask! In this class, students will listen to around three stories about the inhabitants of Chelm. I have an MA in English/Creative Writing, an MA in Jewish Studies and an MS in Clinical Psychology. I have a special interest in folklore, especially funny or supernatural tales. I love sharing this enthusiasm with others!
Paper and markers or crayons. A comfy place to sit. A quiet snack to much on (if you'd like.)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
The stories we will read are modern interpretations of traditional Jewish/Yiddish folklore that have been told for over one hundred years. Many of the characters of the stories are Jewish. Jewish culture, including holidays (such as Hanukah) may be referenced. However, the stories themselves focus on humor, and are secular in nature. All students are welcome to enroll in this class. Recordings of this reading may NOT be shared in any way, on any form of media, including but not limited to Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, etc. Thank you!
