1 hour per week. Each week, the student will be asked to complete a portion of the pattern outside of the class's designated time. The length of time that this will take depends on the crochet speed of the learner. During the class, we will work on starting the different portions of the project. The students will then work independently during the week to complete the indicated portion of the project. The entire project will NOT be completed during JUST the class time. The teacher is available during the week to answer any questions that the students may have. **Every student is different and may be at different levels in their crochet journey. This may affect the amount time that your student spends crocheting outside the classroom. Please feel free to reach out to me if you feel that your student needs more time.**Class Experience
If your student is interested in learning the art of amigurumi crochet, this course is for them! Your student will learn all the skills necessary to make a small hedgehog. Each week is broken down into the different steps that are needed to create her. **Students should know the single crochet stitch. It would also be beneficial if your learner has already crocheted amigurumi before as this is an intermediate level pattern.** **Please see the homework section!** Week One: We will go over all of the supplies that are needed to crochet amigurumi and learn the magic circle and/or the chain-2 method. We will start with the ears and feet. **A stitch marker, hook, and yarn will be needed.** Week Two: We will work on crocheting the head. The students will learn how to change color in amigurumi and follow a specific pattern to create the face of the hedgehog. **A stitch marker, hook, and yarn will be needed.** Week Three: We will add a face to the hedgehog, stuff, and complete the body by decreasing our rounds. **A stitch marker, yarn, safety eyes (optional), tapestry needle, stuffing, and hook will be needed.** **Please see the Parental Guidance Section.** Week Four: We will crochet a bow and assemble the hedgehog by sewing on all the completed pieces. **A tapestry needle and all completed pieces will be needed.** Week Five: We will start adding the "hair/fur" to the hedgehog and sewing on any other pieces that still need to be attached. PLEASE NOTE: The process of creating the "hair/fur" texture is very time consuming. It is OK that this part is not completed by the end of the course. I will go over all the tips, tricks, and recommendations that I have in order to make this process as easy as possible. **A tapestry needle, hook, scissors, and yarn will be needed.** Please reach out to me if you have any questions regarding this course and I would be happy to help! Happy Crocheting! <The hedgehog we are making in class is designed by me and shown in the photo.>
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to do some amigurumi crochet techniques. Each week, the student will be asked to complete a portion of the pattern outside of the class's designated time. The length of time that this will take depends on the crochet speed of the learner.
**If you find that you would like to have a one-on-one session for your student OR you feel that your student would need more support/help, I offer one-on-one classes that can be scheduled at your request.

Other Details
Parental Guidance
Students WILL need to use scissors and tapestry needles in this class.
**Please note that the you will continue to work on the same project each week, so keep it stored in a safe place when you are not working on it.**
**Safety eyes are only suitable for children aged 3 years and older. Please be aware of this in case there are younger siblings in the house. Safety eyes are completely optional as the amigurumi's eyes, nose, and mouth can be stitched on with a tapestry needle.**
**The technique for this hedgehog's "hair" is time-consuming. It is OK that the "hair" is not complete by the end of the course.**
**If your student misses one of the weeks, the video of the class will be available for him/her to watch. A 50% refund for that particular lesson will be given if I am made aware before the class time.**
Supply List
Three colors of yarn. I recommend yarns like Red Heart Super Saver, Caron One Pound, or Big Twist. Crochet Hook (It's best to have a variety of smaller sizes to do amigurumi crochet. I suggest a 2, 2.5, or 3MM crochet hook.) Scissors Poly-fill/Stuffing Tapestry Needle: they come in a variety of sizes. Just be sure that your yarn can go through the eye of the needle. Stitch Markers: Extra strips of yarn or bobby pins work fine if you do not have these. Safety Eyes (Optional) A PDF file of this pattern will be posted to the classroom after the first class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I learned to crochet in my middle school home economics class and I've been "hooked" ever since. *pun intended* :D I just did the math and that means that I have been crocheting for 20 years now. Wow!
Crochet is a wonderful hobby to make something creative but also useful. I have made many items such as washcloths, shawls, scarves, stuffed toys, and blankets. Over the years, I have learned that blankets are my absolute favorite item to make. There is a crocheted blanket on every bed in my home...and on every sofa...and some are stored...
I am the type of person that can not just sit and not have my hands be busy. Crochet is the perfect hobby to do while watching your favorite show for the 346th time. My hope for the crochet classes is to spark that love of crochet for every student that comes into the classroom. I hope to see you soon!
