In this course, students will use fraction circles to develop a better understanding of fractions. Each session will focus on a specific operation of fractions. Your child may choose to go through the entire 10 week series or jump in and out based upon the areas of focus they would like to practice. Ms. Sarah has a master's degree in education and Montessori certification, plus over 20 years of elementary classroom experience. She enjoys helping students understand abstract concepts using math materials that make sense to them and seeing those ah-ha moments when students grasp a difficult concept for the first time.
Fraction circles - You may use your own if you have some or use free ones found online. Free sets can be found by searching for "free printable fraction circles." For the division classes, it will be important that students have 8 similar small objects such as pennies, buttons, or small stones.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
During the fractions multiplication lessons, YouTube video about ratios and how they relate to fractions may be shown during class.
