Hands-On Geometry - Quadrilaterals
Class experience
Students can easily understand abstract math concepts when they are presented in a concrete manner. Lesson 1: We will begin with the connections between squares, rectangles, rhombuses, and parallelograms. Practice of perimeter will be included. Lesson 2: We will hear a story that will illustrate the concept of area. Then we will do a hands-on activity that will help your child understand the concept of area of squares and rectangles. Lesson 3: Students will build upon their understanding...
Students will learn how to define squares, rectangles, rhombuses and parallelograms. Students will learn the difference between perimeter and area. Students will learn how to calculate the perimeter and area of squares, rectangles, rhombuses and parallelograms.
Ms. Sarah has a master's degree in education and Montessori certification, plus over 20 years of elementary classroom experience. She enjoys helping students understand abstract concepts using math materials that make sense to them and seeing those ah-ha moments when students grasp a difficult concept for the first time.

Parental guidance is required as scissors will be used during lesson 3. A short video about quadrilaterals may be shared during class. While YouTube is not intended for visit and use by children under 13 (and thus a non-COPPA compliant resource), Outschool has developed a way for educators to use YouTube videos in their classes in a legally compliant way. All educators need to do is add the YouTube link to their Classroom Post – Outschool embeds the link on its platform so that learners remain on the Outschool platform and don’t access the YouTube website.
