Description

Class Experience

Students will improve their art appreciation skills and learn about Latin American art through the work of these artists. This means that the learners will:

- Understand the relationship between art, history, and culture through the study of these artists.
- Improve their visual thinking strategies and learn how to appreciate the details of an artwork while also situating them within a larger context (big picture).
- Start appreciating art from a more holistic perspective that values "the arts" instead of "the Art" (thus, perceiving art as something accessible and close to the learners)
- Practice their Spanish and learn new vocabulary
I believe in learning while doing, and in the potential of art to take us to unimaginable places (even if this means learning more about ourselves through introspection!). As a native Spanish speaker, an art historian, and a museum educator with over 6 years of experience working with kids and families, I believe I can support students in practicing their Spanish while also learning about Latin American artists who have been underrepresented outside of Latin America.
No homework will be assigned. However, depending on their progress in class, students might spend time completing the drawing after the session.
 2 files available upon enrollment
Parents and caregivers, please provide your learners with painting tools so they can draw the selected artwork during class and share it with their classmates afterward!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
At the end of the camp, the learners will have a portfolio of their drawings!
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
