Class Experience

In this course, you will learn how to create a unique and eco-friendly paper box by folding recycled book pages. This fun and easy project is perfect for those who enjoy upcycling and want to reduce their environmental impact.
Throughout the course, you will be guided through the step-by-step process of creating a paper box from start to finish. You will learn how to fold and cut the book pages to create the perfect size and shape for your box. You will also learn how to assemble the box and add any finishing touches to make it truly your own.
Not only will you end up with a beautiful and functional paper box, but you will also gain valuable skills and knowledge in upcycling and crafting. Join us for this exciting course and discover the creative possibilities of recycled book pages!

Learners will follow along with a live demonstration to transform a book, into a box with a detached lid.
First we will decorate our pages with markers or crayons, then we will fold the pages to create a sturdy box.

Please find a book that is no longer being used or is falling apart. Thrift stores, free stores or book exchanges/boxes are great places to look.

Variations: It is important that the pages you use are rectangles. If you want to make a bigger box, you can use larger piece of paper. Sturdy papers work best, which becomes more important for larger boxes.

While we work, we will also talk about why it is important to use waste materials in art. What do your creations say about your beliefs and values?

Yvonne G
Yvonne, B.Mus McGill University, is an interdisciplinary artist with a wide range of interests. After a minor concentration in Art History, I continue to be fascinated by the subject and exploration into how we have changed art over the centuries. This includes fashion! I like to upcycle old clothing, create collage and assemblage sculpture, create electronic music and I work a lot with recycled materials and papercrafts. As a homeschooling mom of an ND learner, I've developed project based learning opportunities that combine curricular expectations with specific interests. I am of Metis and European heritage and enjoy exploring history and current art trends in my culture as well. Learner Led project based learning is where we connect with learners and inspire them to continue in their learning journey.
