In this class students will learn basic hand sewing skills by making rice bag hand warmers. Students will be introduced to three stitches, a simple stitch, a blanket stitch, and a whip stitch. We will start our class by learning to line up the fabric and keep it in place while working. Students will also learn how to keep a stitch "invisible", so the finished product looks neat and even professionally done. While working, students will have a chance to socialize if they choose, and I will give feedback as needed. No experience is needed to participate in this class, only a fabric of choice, a needle, and thread.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Elena Penner. I am a 2020 grad, and I graduated with my B.A. in Elementary Education from Western Governors University. Prior to graduating I was a dance teacher for 4+ years; I’ve been dancing myself since I was 5 years old. It is my firm belief that no matter the age, style, or content, every student is capable of great learning and growth. I love teaching in the online format, and did so when COVID-19 shut down my dance studio. I’m currently teaching 1st grade, and I love hiking, knitting, and coffee!
