In this introduction to hand sewing class, students will learn the basics of the craft of hand sewing in a relaxed, supportive environment. Students will be familiarized with the variety of tools and materials they will need, learn how to thread and handle a needle, how to create a variety of stitches, and how to assemble pieces of material to create a finished project. Lessons will be learner-directed, and students may join or withdraw at any time they wish. New students will be assessed on...
1 file available upon enrollmentStudents will require the following materials in order to participate: • An assortment of hand-sewing needles • Sewing thread • Scissors • Craft felt • A pin cushion and storage to keep supplies organized in between class meetings. The following supplies are optional: • Polyester fiberfill (for stuffing finished creations like pillows and toys) • Sewing pins (I recommend longer pins with round heads as they are less likely to get lost and find their way into unwanted places.) • Needle threader (this is technically optional, but it will make life immensely easier) • Seam Ripper (Sort of the "undo button" for sewing, seam rippers can come in handy but aren't 100% necessary)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students may require supervision with scissors and sewing needles.
