Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn how to use sewing tools safely, thread a needle, make a whipstitch, and start and end their stitching. Students will learn how to sew two pieces of felt together to make a small pillow.
No homework is required, although learners may want to continue sewing!
For this felt pillow sewing class, you will need: * a needle (I use a tapestry needle with a blunt end for felt); * embroidery floss or sewing thread; * sharp scissors; * 4 square pieces of felt: two for practice, and two to make our pillow (adults may want to cut these before class, I recommend 4-5" squares); * paper for book pages (at least 10 of sheets of regular printer paper); and * stuffing (use batting, or reuse some coloring book pages).
Assessment is informal and this sewing class, as I check in regularly with each young artist to make sure they understand what to do.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Because young artists will be using sharp tools like needles and scissors, I recommend an adult be nearby. The adult may even enjoy sewing along with us! (Off camera, of course :)
