In this class, we’ll use a mix of modern calligraphy and a hand-lettered serif font to create a cheerful morning greeting. We’ll draw a cute mug to finish our wall art piece, perfect to hang near the coffee bar or breakfast nook.
Class experience
In this 1-time class, we’ll be pairing modern/faux calligraphy with another serif-style font. We’ll learn about complementary font styles and how to pair them effectively to create a cohesive piece of wall art. Students will work on following creative direction, realistic and creative drawing, balance of composition, and some color theory.
I am a former Art Teacher and had the privilege of teaching Art for 2 years to K-8th grade students using various mediums and forms. A lot of my class instruction was teaching the art of drawing. Weekly, we drew various compositions ranging from seasonal landscapes, wild animals, nature, and portraits. Students enjoyed learning skills to create realistic drawings while adding as much flare and creative variation as they liked. Watching students enjoy making art and grow in their own confidence was truly a priceless gift. In addition to teaching art, I am an artist and have an art studio in my home. I've used my love for hand-lettering and design to start a business in 2015 selling products with my work. It's been so fun!
One piece of white printer paper or card stock, a good pencil with an eraser, a fine tip black marker for defining and outlining, coloring tools with various preferred colors (markers, crayons, colored pencils, pastels, etc.), and a positive attitude.
