Class Experience

This course is for 13-to 17-year-olds and is designed to enhance students' conversational skills in basic Japanese. Students will practice speaking in various everyday situations, improve their pronunciation, and expand their vocabulary. Students will meet weekly and be shown an example conversation. We will review the vocabulary used in the conversation and additional vocabulary when appropriate. Students will then model the conversation.

The example conversation will expose students to the Japanese hiragana system. The conversation will also be in romaji (the Roman alphabet letters used to write Japanese words), so students are not required to know hiragana. Furthermore, they will learn phonetic pronunciation. It is vital that students feel welcome and excited about learning. While having fun, we will also practice good classroom etiquette. The class will be interactive, and students will get to model the conversation with one another and/or the teacher. Let's get ready to learn and have fun!
