What's included

A fun, history filled summer camp for Hamilton the musical fans. If you are obsessed with the broadway musical, then you are probably curious about the real lives of Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, and George Washington. We will take a deeper dive into history to find out what the musical got right, wrong, what was added, left out, and why. We will read small excerpts of some of the songs that feature each character from the Hamilton musical and connect the lyrics to what really happened in history. This will include "My Shot", "Gun & Ships", and "Right Hand Man". Meeting 1: John Laurens Meeting 2: Hercules Mulligan Meeting 3: Marquis de Lafayette Meeting 4: Kahoot At the end of the week, the Learners will participate in a fun Kahoot game to further strengthen their comprehension of the history behind Hamilton the musical. They will also be able to show off their knowledge of the musical! Kahoot is a fun interactive game base platform for students to be able to participate and interact live within the game platform. Students will be given a Kahoot code in order to join our game. Students can log into Kahoot in a couple of ways: ~Log in from a device separate from what they are logged on in Zoom (extra laptop, smart phone, or tablet, anything that has a web browser) ~Split their laptop screen into two while in Zoom Tutorial: https://youtu.be/7HI9OmisaZ4 Students will need to go to https://kahoot.it or the Kahoot app and input the game code. I will be logged into our Zoom classroom 10 minutes before class time is scheduled to start to help anyone that has technology questions. If your Learner prefers to not log onto Kahoot, they can still participate by recording their answers on a separate piece of paper. If you have any questions or concerns with using Kahoot, please reach out to me. I want to make sure all of my students have a successful fun last day of camp! Your learner will need to turn on their video at the beginning of class unless they have already verified with Outschool Safety and have a green check mark next to their name. After verification, the Learner is free to turn off their camera for the remainder of class. I know all of my Learners live busy lives. I allow eating and drinking in my class, as long as it doesn’t become a distraction to the other Learners. I expect all of my Learners to respect everyone in class. It is okay to disagree with others, but it is not okay to insult other’s world views. REFUND POLICIES: This multi-day class has a limited refund policy: full refund until a week in advance, or within 24 hours of purchase (until class starts). As per Outschool policy, if no Learners show up to class after 10 minutes of start time, I will log out of the classroom. Student no shows may not entitle you to a class refund. However, I understand that life events happen. If there is an emergency causing your student to miss class. Please notify me and support@outschool.com as soon as you know your student will not make class. Hamilton: An American Musical is a hip hop inspired musical of the life of Alexander Hamilton. The story does have mature themes, including adultery, and gun violence. We will discuss Alexander Hamilton's affair with Maria Reynolds. While we will not get into the details of the affair, we will discuss why Alexander Hamilton would have wanted to publish the Reynolds Pamphlet. We will also discuss what Hamilton's enemies thought what really happened. Please visit Common Sense Media to see if your child is mature enough for this musical. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/hamilton

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, my name is Sirena. I am a crafty momma who loves to share my passion of creating and learning. I earned my Nutrition and Fitness BS graduate degree from the University of Missouri in 2005. I started teaching on Outschool as a means to connect and help share my passions with other people who were interested in the same things as I. I would love all of my students to leave my class with more inspiration to learn more about whatever they are passionate about and never be afraid to show others your true self.
Growing up, history was not my favorite topic. It seemed filled with dates, battles, and was beige and boring. It wasn't until I became an adult, and learned the personal stories of historic people, that I starting taking an interest in history and famous historical women.
I am a work at home mom of two special kiddos, age 10 and 6. My daughter, Catalina, is a bright 5th grader that loves to read. Blake, my son, is a fun loving 1st grader, who is on the Autism spectrum. To round out my family, I also live with my husband, Justin, who shares my love of history. We also are a house full of pets. We have two parakeets, a dog, turtle, and many fish! When I am not teaching craft, art, baking, and history classes for Outschool, I am managing my enamel pin Etsy shop.
When I am not teaching I love spending time with my family doing things together like baking, cooking, gardening, and watching movies together. I am an avid reader and a lover of history. I was born with the need to create and love that I can share my creations and passions with others.
I am very excited to begin offering classes with Outschool and I hope to meet you and your child soon!
If there is a class that you would like to see offered that I currently do not offer, please reach out to me! Thank you kindly! 😀
Sincerely,
Sirena
