Class Experience

Built for both long-time admirers and newcomers, this class offers a chance to talk and meet with other "Hamilfans" and sing the songs of the show. No previous vocal training is needed, and you are not graded on abilities. We will go over 3 songs from the show, to be discussed and decided on in the classroom before the time starts. As a class, we will review not only the songs themselves but the meanings within them, as well as the history of the time. This is not a history lecture, simply connecting the truths in art to the reality of the time.

Learning Goals

Students will develop a deeper understanding of "Hamilton" and the meanings of the songs, with the end goal being not only gaining new knowledge of the Revolution but a better understand of the intricacies of the show.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a theatre and drama teacher, looking to show people that anything from a Broadway audition to a family skit can be fun and fulfilling! I have taught drama for nearly a decade, most recently in a public high school in South Florida. I have been involved in educational theatre in one way or another since middle school and would like to always have a hand in it in some way. OutSchool is a great avenue to get in practice for monologues, work out acting tics, or even delve into the history of acting and drama.

Acting has often been referred to as "The Shy Person's Art" because you can hide in yourself, creating a whole new person and showing them off while you hide behind the lines and the makeup. No matter if you are a life-of-the-party sort of person, or you lock yourself away every night, there is something to be learned from the long, rich history of Drama. You never know where it might take you, or what you might discover in yourself!

Fun fact: I once met a girl at an audition, and we ended up in a play together where I had to learn a dozen Yiddish phrases and she yelled at me for 15 minutes about flowers. Our relationship has vastly improved since then - we are married with 2 children! Like I said, you never know where Drama can lead you.
