Happy Halloween everyone! In this class, students will learn how to prepare healthy and silly looking apple monsters. The recipe I've designed is kid-friendly and uses ingredients that are easy to find and can be substituted if necessary (for example, using alternative spreads instead of peanut butter for those with peanut allergies). Overall, the recipe is a sweet way to celebrate this time of the year, and doesn't include as much sugar as you'd find in candy! Before the class, please...
For this class, students will need: - 2 apples (preferably Granny Smith) quartered and cored. Students can make this recipe with more than two apples if they wish! Two apples yields eight monsters. - Peanut butter, almond butter, sunflower butter, cashew butter or nut-free butter spread (the choice is up to learners!) Please note that amount of butter needed will vary, depending on how filled students want the monster mouths to be. - Sunflower seeds, pine nuts or puffed rice (for monster teeth). - 2 to 3 strawberries, sliced (for tongues) - 8 green or red grapes -16 chocolate chips (semi-sweet, milk chocolate, dark) -cutting board -large knife to quarter apples and core them (this can be done before the class) -small paring knife to create mouth shape -small spoon or butter knife to scoop butter
25 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
Please be aware of any possible allergies your child might have in the ingredients. Also, please note that we will be using small short knives, ideally paring knives, for this recipe!
