US Grade 3 - 6
In the beginning of the class, learners will be encouraged to share/discuss the Halloween traditions in their country and family (they are welcome to share pictures and/or videos from previous Halloween celebrations as well). After that we will talk about what Halloween celebration or their own version of the Day of the Dead looks like in other countries (material taught will retain a secular view). Additional sources will include people that live in the countries discussed in class (I will be reaching out to different people and interviewing them about Halloween traditions in their family and their country, including multiple perspectives). This will be an interactive lecture in which learners will actively participate by asking/answering questions and expressing their opinion. We will use a Nearpod presentation for visuals (pictures and a few short video). As we learn about these traditions, learners will be encouraged to find the country in question on the map, Geography lovers' treat. At the end of the class, students will be encouraged to discuss what they found to be as most interesting tradition. Additionally, if there are enough learners in the class and if they have access to Kahoot, we will play a fun Kahoot game to test the new information retention. No previous knowledge is required for this class, however learners are expected to be able to read in order to be able to search for the countries on the map. If the learner enjoys this one-time class, please consider the on-going "Let's Travel the World Together" class, in which we explore a new country each week, learning geography and more. Class presentation will include Nearpod. Link and code to join the presentation in Nearpod will be posted in the classroom the day before class scheduled time.
