Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
Reading is better when you are having fun! So, I have created a Halloween-themed reading comprehension class to engage learners while we practice FOUR different comprehension skills: summarize, story plot, character analyzations, and questioning. Along with these skills students will learn two higher-level vocabulary words. Finally we will respond to a prompt to promote their use of text evidence in a written response. Students will receive the organizer that matches the comprehension skills so they can practice along in the class. The class is packed with learning that is all centered around a fun Halloween story.

LESSON OUTLINE:
-Vocabulary slides and discussion: define, antonym, synonym, examples and analogy (two words or more)
-Preview comprehension skills of lesson and the organizer that matches the skills.
-Read the Halloween-themed shared text from teacher presentation slides.
-Teacher will ask guided questions to support students through the comprehension organizer.
(student copy posted in classroom for printing)
-Written response prompt.
-Review all the skills from the lesson
