Class Experience

Students will come away from this class with an understanding of how these stories from around the world have shaped our modern traditions.
I have taught social studies and history as a tutor, substitute teacher, and homeschool teacher, and therefore have experience in covering sensitive topics that involve death and religion in a manner appropriate for children. Per Outschool policy, no religion will be discussed outside of its effect on global cultural traditions.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Since many of the traditions of Halloween are derived from religious practices and beliefs, we will discuss how belief systems can help shape culture. This will include some Christianity (i.e. Día de Muertos) and ancient pagan beliefs (i.e. Samhain).

Many Halloween traditions are also based around the concept of death and an afterlife. Parents and students should be aware that we will discuss cultural depictions surrounding death the concept of an afterlife, which includes "ghosts" and "spirits".
